How to Become a Successful Early Bird

For some of us, mornings are just not our friends. Some of us have a toxic relationship with our alarm clocks and we’ve got the dark circles to show for it. You can use the excuse that you are just not ‘wired’ that way, and the early bird/night owl debate can show that to be a valid point.

However, with studies showing that people who wake up early generally being more productive, with better job performance and overall better health - if you are one of the few that struggle with early mornings, you may find incorporating just small changes into your life can be beneficial in the long run.

Even if it does mean that you have to fight every urge to stay in bed!

Here are some practical steps to add to your routine that can help turn you into a morning person

Making your bed

Bed
Keep the positivity rolling. This one basic habit can set the tone for the rest of the day. If you can successfully complete this simple exercise, you will have accomplished the first task of the day! That small sense of pride will encourage you to keep that winning streak and further achieve the rest of your goals.

And how great does it feel getting into a made bed at the end of the day!

Going to sleep earlier

Being an early bird doesn’t mean you have to miss out on sleep. Going to bed that little bit earlier can make up for the sleep hours that you would lose in the morning. Easier said than done, right? Having a routine can help with this. Preparing for an early start begins the night before. If you struggle to fall asleep there are a few tips on the previous blog post that can help you. Sleep aids such as our Domo Sleep Gummies which contain 5-HTP work to help you to fall asleep more quickly and stay asleep through the night, allowing you to wake up more refreshed and alert. You can find them here.

Creating a to-do list

Creating a to-do list can help you to establish what it is that you want to achieve in the mornings. It makes things seem a lot more achievable and can help take away that overwhelming feeling that might creep up on you. Having your thoughts down on paper can also help you to work out what is important to you and what works best E.g. Is going to the gym too much of a task - would going for a walk be better?
Plus we all know how great the satisfaction of ticking off a completed task is!

Avoiding social media

I think we all know scrolling social media it’s not the best or most productive way to begin your day. Yet a survey found that 80% of people check their phones within the first few minutes of waking up.

“Checking your phone immediately after waking up may not be a good way to start your day considering the fact that you’re being bombarded with new messages, emails, to-dos and other things that trigger a feeling of stress and anxiety. This disrupts your chances of starting your day with a calm mind.”

If you do choose to use your phone in the morning, perhaps whilst eating breakfast, picking an alternative to social media can help bring a boost of positivity to your morning. There are plenty of apps and websites that do this now such as Positive News which is a dedicated news organisation that is dedicated to quality, independent reporting about what’s going right, rather than the doom and gloom in current affairs.
